Methodist Church denies race-based claims against Deputy General Secretary

The Methodist Church in Fiji and Rotuma has issued a strong denial regarding claims that Deputy General Secretary Reverend Dr Anil Reuben was overlooked for the top position due to racial discrimination. The church firmly stated that the comments attributed to Dr. Reuben were not made by him and were instead circulated on social media by an account operating under the name Ratu Ilaisa Sema.

Describing the claims as false and misleading, the church has formally requested the Fiji Police Force to launch an investigation into the matter. They emphasized that individuals found to have broken any laws should face appropriate action. The church also issued a plea to the public to exercise caution and verify information before sharing posts online, highlighting the potential for false claims to foster division and erode public trust.

Reverend Dr. Reuben, who has dedicated approximately 43 years to ordained ministry, continues to serve as the Deputy General Secretary of the Church. The statement from the church aims to clarify the situation and counter the misinformation that has been spread.

This denial comes amid concerns about the spread of misinformation on social media platforms. The Methodist Church's proactive stance seeks to protect its reputation and ensure accurate information is disseminated regarding its leadership and internal matters.
