WhatsApp chats reveal alleged scheme by Sartor executives in club acquisition

Prosecutors have amassed a significant amount of evidence, comprising over 2,000 files, as part of a criminal investigation targeting executives of Grupo Sartor. This extensive collection includes declarations, financial analyses, email reviews, and crucially, WhatsApp conversations.

These digital communications have become a pivotal element in the investigation. The Public Ministry is leveraging this evidence to formalize charges against the group's directors. The focus is on their alleged actions during the acquisition of Azul Azul, the company managing the Universidad de Chile football club, which was finalized in May 2021.

Reports indicate that Sartor executives utilized a messaging group to share details pertinent to the operation. This information, detailed in a 71-page police report, is considered fundamental by the prosecution in establishing the executives' criminal responsibility. The investigation aims to scrutinize the maneuvers undertaken for the acquisition of the club's operating concession.

One revealed WhatsApp chat suggests a potential motive related to the football team's performance: "Let U keep losing, maybe we can buy it cheaper." This statement implies a possible strategy of exploiting the team's poor results to secure the acquisition at a lower price.
