WhatsApp Web Now Supports Voice and Video Calls

WhatsApp is enhancing its calling capabilities by introducing voice and video call support directly on WhatsApp Web. This new feature allows users to initiate and receive calls through their web browser, eliminating the need to download a separate application on their computer.

The company stated that these features are rolling out gradually and will soon be universally available. The aim is to make WhatsApp calling simpler and more accessible, particularly for individuals who share devices, use work computers that prohibit application installations, or simply prefer managing their communications via a browser interface.

Beyond basic calling, WhatsApp Web now offers features comparable to its mobile counterpart. Users can engage in personal and group calls, share their screens, utilize call reactions, and access a dedicated Call tab displaying call history and frequently contacted individuals. All web calls are secured with end-to-end encryption, with no additional time limits or costs imposed.

Further improvements include a Call Transfer feature, enabling seamless switching of ongoing calls between devices. The Waiting Room feature grants call organizers greater control by allowing them to approve participants before they join. Additionally, WhatsApp has introduced QuickHD for enhanced video resolution at the call's outset and Noise Suppression to minimize distracting background sounds, ensuring clearer communication even in noisy environments.
