Why Atiku is worried over strange payment into his bank account

Gabriel Attal, a candidate for the 2027 French presidential election and head of the Renaissance party, has filed a complaint alleging foreign interference originating from Russian networks. This action follows an initial report on Wednesday concerning external digital interference from Russia. State services informed Attal on Friday about a new interference operation that occurred Thursday, also attributed to Russian networks.

Attal's lawyers stated the complaint, filed in Paris, denounces "acts of foreign interference, information manipulation, and the fabrication of manipulated content, likely to undermine the fundamental interests of the nation and the sincerity of the upcoming presidential election." The candidate was alerted by the General Secretariat for National Defence and Security (SGDSN), specifically its Viginum service, which monitors and protects against foreign digital interference.

The disinformation campaigns targeting Attal involve multiple X (formerly Twitter) accounts, some impersonating French and international media outlets. These accounts have disseminated fake video reports and fabricated newspaper front pages, mimicking media logos and graphic designs. The content falsely attributes misleading statements, actions, and public positions to Attal and his associates, aiming to discredit him as a candidate.

Attal expressed concern that if protective measures are not taken, the election could be compromised, accusing Russia of attempting to "steal" the election from the French people. This is part of a series of destabilization operations attributed to pro-Russian networks that have targeted several declared or potential presidential candidates in recent days. Edouard Philippe and Raphaël Glucksmann have also been subjects of smear campaigns.
