Wife of Slain Mayor and Security Chief Arrested in Temoac Extortion Probe

Marisol Romero Zamora, the wife of the recently assassinated mayor of Temoac, Valentín Lavín Romero, has been arrested along with Geovany Emmanuel González Morellano, the town's Public Security Director. The arrests were made by the Prosecutor's Office for High-Impact Crimes as part of an ongoing effort to combat extortion.

State Prosecutor Fernando Blumenkron Escobar confirmed that arrest warrants were executed against the two public officials from the municipality of Temoac. They are set to appear before a specialized judge to face the investigations compiled by the Prosecutor's Office for High-Impact Crimes (FIDAI).

Romero Zamora's family has a history with law enforcement. She is the daughter of Andrea Angelina Zamora Castilla, known as "La Patrona," who was previously arrested in September 2025. Castilla and 10 others were identified as members of the "Los Aparicio" and/or "Los Huazulco" cell, allegedly operating in Temoac and surrounding areas. They faced charges including aggravated express kidnapping, drug offenses, resisting arrest, aggravated kidnapping, and illegal firearm possession.

In response to the mayor's assassination and subsequent arrests, state government officials are coordinating with the Temoac City Council. They aim to ensure the continuity of public services and support the institutional process for appointing a new municipal president. The municipal trustee, Esperanza Galván Zavala, has temporarily assumed mayoral duties. Security has been reinforced in Temoac and the eastern region with the presence of the National Guard, the Secretariat of National Defense, and the State Police conducting patrols and coordinated actions.
