During the court proceedings, Ms. Chen argued that she met Mr. Yang at a hotel where she worked and that he claimed to be divorced. She asserted that her responses were merely to comfort a client and that she only learned of his marriage after seeing a photo of him and his wife on Facebook, after which she immediately blocked him. Ms. Chen also contended that the wife failed to provide evidence of sexual intercourse and questioned the authenticity of the message timestamps.

However, the judge reviewed the chat logs and found that Ms. Chen had initiated intimate conversations, including the messages about wasting money on hotels and discussing matters in bed. The court concluded that Ms. Chen was aware of Mr. Yang's marital status and that their relationship extended beyond normal social interactions. Consequently, her defense was deemed invalid, and she was ordered to pay 150,000 NT dollars in damages.
