Wildfire Forces Evacuations on Madrid's Outskirts as Flames Spread Rapidly

A fierce wildfire raged on the outskirts of Madrid, forcing the evacuation of residents from multiple communities. The blaze, which started near Toledo, spread rapidly due to strong winds, engulfing areas southwest of the Spanish capital.

Authorities issued emergency alerts to mobile phones in affected areas, urging residents to follow the instructions of rescue teams. The communities of El Escorial, Rivera del Alberche, and Rincón del Alberche were evacuated, while the municipality of Villa del Prado was placed under quarantine. Residents were instructed to stay in their homes with doors and windows closed until further notice.

Efforts to contain the fire involved at least 19 ground and air resources from Madrid, including firefighters, forest firefighters, and forest rangers. The Castilla-La Mancha region mobilized eight ground units and 27 members of the Infocam mechanism. The Military Unit of Emergencies (UME) also joined the firefighting operation, significantly bolstering containment efforts.

For safety reasons, authorities closed sections of the N-403 and M-507 roads. A forward command center was established in Cenicientos to coordinate the forces from both regions. According to the Spanish government's representative in Madrid, approximately 30 homes were in the fire's path, with several suffering severe damage or being completely destroyed. No injuries or smoke inhalation incidents had been reported as of the latest update.
