Wildfire spreads to German Federal Police depot, firefighters contain blaze

Firefighters battled a wildfire in Germany's Hochtaunuskreis that spread to the grounds of a Federal Police supply depot, successfully bringing the blaze under control. The fire, which consumed an area of about 4,800 square meters near Grävenwiesbach, did not reach the depot's buildings, according to a Federal Police spokesperson.

During the intense firefighting efforts, two emergency responders received medical treatment. One firefighter suffered from smoke inhalation, while another experienced circulatory problems. The area is known to be contaminated with munitions, requiring firefighters to maintain a safe distance and proceed with extreme caution.

Authorities issued a warning advisory, urging residents in the vicinity to secure their homes by closing windows and doors and shutting off air conditioning and ventilation systems. The depot, located in the Hundstadt district, stores uniforms and other supplies for the Federal Police.

Assistance in combating the fire came from local farmers who provided water, and a cistern on the police grounds. Despite the challenges, including the munition risk, the fire was contained, preventing further escalation.
