Winnipeg Teen Charged with Animal Cruelty After Cat Killed

A 16-year-old in Winnipeg is facing multiple charges, including animal cruelty, after allegedly killing a cat with a knife. Winnipeg police were called to the 600 block of Main Street in the Centennial neighborhood on Monday evening following a report of a youth harming an animal.

Officers arrived at the scene around 9:20 p.m. and found a 16-year-old suspect holding a knife. A deceased cat was discovered nearby. According to the Winnipeg Police Service (WPS), the teen is accused of confining the cat inside a plastic bag while it was still alive.

Following the alleged confinement, the teen is said to have removed the cat from the bag and then injured it with the knife, resulting in the animal's death. The charges against the accused include killing or injuring an animal, causing unnecessary suffering to an animal, and possession of a weapon.

In addition to the animal cruelty charges, the teenager is also facing several counts related to non-compliance with court orders. These include four counts of failure to comply with a release order and three counts of failing to comply with a sentence.
