Woman, child killed after fire breaks out at building in Mumbai's Church Road

A devastating fire ripped through a residential building in Mumbai's Vile Parle (West) area late Tuesday night, claiming the lives of a 23-year-old woman and a 2.5-year-old child. The blaze erupted on the 11th floor of the Shanta Bhavan Building, rapidly engulfing an area of about 4,000 square feet.

The fire consumed electrical wiring, installations, an AC unit, furniture, and kitchen utensils. Fire Officer V Bhosale reported that eight fire tenders were dispatched to the scene. Firefighters successfully rescued 15 individuals who were trapped on the building's terrace. In addition to the fatalities, two other individuals sustained injuries and were hospitalized, while four others, identified as Parth, Hiren, Yashasvi, and Abishek, are in stable condition.

The fire was brought under control, and cooling operations were underway. The precise cause of the incident remains undetermined and will be subject to a detailed investigation. This incident follows a separate, less severe fire at the Byculla Police Station earlier in the week, which caused no casualties.
