Woman dies after car plunges into Munzur River in Tunceli

A woman has died following a severe car accident in Tunceli, Turkey, where her vehicle veered off the road and plunged into the Munzur River. The incident occurred on the route between Cumhuriyet Mahallesi and Babaocağı.

The car, driven by H.Ö., lost control and rolled approximately 60 meters before falling into the river. Elif Zilan Söylemez, who was a passenger in the vehicle, was ejected and landed in a wooded area. The driver, H.Ö., managed to exit the submerged car and reach the riverbank on his own.

Emergency services, including firefighters, AFAD (Disaster and Emergency Management Authority), UMKE (National Medical Rescue Team), Munzur Search and Rescue Association (MUDAK), medical personnel, and police, were dispatched to the scene. Bystanders also attempted to reach the injured by swimming across the river.

Rescue teams and citizens carried Söylemez from the wooded area on a stretcher and transported her across the river by boat. The driver, H.Ö., was also located and taken to medical teams. Both injured individuals were taken to Tunceli State Hospital by ambulance. Despite the efforts of medical staff, Elif Zilan Söylemez could not be saved. Her body was taken to the hospital morgue for an autopsy. The driver, H.Ö., is receiving treatment, and an investigation into the accident is ongoing.
