Woman killed on bench after van mounts sidewalk in Tulcea

A tragic accident in Tulcea, Romania, resulted in the death of a 44-year-old woman who was sitting on a bench outside her apartment building. The woman was struck by a van that drove onto the sidewalk after the driver lost control.

The incident happened on Isaccei Street around 6:00 PM. According to initial police reports from Tulcea County Police Inspectorate (IPJ Tulcea), the 58-year-old driver was attempting to avoid hitting the vehicle in front of him. In doing so, he lost control of his van, veered off the road to the right, and mounted the sidewalk, hitting the woman.

The victim died at the scene due to the impact. Local publication Dobrogea News reported the details of the accident. The driver was subjected to an alcohol test, which returned a negative result. Authorities confirmed he possessed a valid driver's license.

Police have opened a criminal case for negligent homicide. Under the coordination of a case prosecutor, investigators are continuing their work to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the fatal incident.
