Woman Missing While Berry Picking in Lithuania; Extensive Search Underway

An extensive search is underway in Lithuania for a 74-year-old woman who disappeared while berry picking. V. Triponienė went to Kajackaraisčiai forest on August 9, 2026, around 4 p.m. and has not returned. She is described as being about 160 cm tall, of slight build, with grayish-white short hair. She was last seen wearing a blue sweater, blue jeans, and a black bucket hat, with light-colored shoes with holes. She was not carrying a phone.

Law enforcement officers from Marijampolė County, a dog handler, Red Cross volunteers, and members of the Šaulių Union are participating in the search. A helicopter and drones equipped with thermal imaging have been deployed to aid the effort. Local hunting clubs have also been informed.

Despite these extensive measures, no concrete information regarding the missing woman's whereabouts has been discovered. Authorities are urging the public to report any sightings to the emergency number 112.
