Worker dies in accident at Barcelona's Camp Nou construction site

FC Barcelona has announced the death of a worker at the ongoing construction site of its Camp Nou stadium. The fatal accident occurred on Friday, marking the first such incident since the stadium's major renovation began in June 2023.

The club issued a statement expressing its "profound regret" over the passing of the operative. Barcelona conveyed its "deepest condolences and all its support and affection to his family, his friends, and his colleagues."

Club president Joan Laporta intends to personally offer his condolences to the worker's family and has pledged the club's full support. The renovation project, which involves thousands of workers, has recently seen the completion of the new third tier's structure, with current efforts focused on a compression ring to support the stadium's roof.

According to the Mossos d'Esquadra, the 54-year-old worker was struck by an object while working on the Camp Nou site. Emergency services responded to the scene but were unable to save the operative's life.
