Since the inaugural FIFA World Cup in 1930, a total of 54 hat-tricks have been recorded by players across the tournament's history. The very first instance of a player scoring three goals in a single match occurred in that inaugural tournament held in Uruguay.

Fast forward to the most recent World Cup in Qatar in 2022, France's Kylian Mbappé scored a remarkable hat-trick in the final against Argentina, though his team ultimately lost the match in a penalty shootout.

Burhan Sargın became the only Turkish player to score a hat-trick in World Cup history.

Turkey has had its own celebrated hat-trick hero in Burhan Sargın, who scored three goals in their dominant 7-0 win against South Korea during the 1954 World Cup. That same 1954 tournament in Switzerland saw a record number of hat-tricks, with seven players achieving the feat a total of eight times, including Germany's Max Morlock who scored three against Turkey.

Only 3 players have achieved the success of scoring a hat-trick '2 times' in World Cup history.

Only three players in World Cup history have managed to score two hat-tricks: Hungary's Sandor Kocsis (1954), Germany's Gerd Müller (1970), and Argentina's Gabriel Batistuta (1994 and 1998). Müller notably was the sole player to score a hat-trick in the 1970 tournament. A unique occurrence happened in 1938 when both Leonidas of Brazil and Ernest Wilimowski of Poland scored hat-tricks in the same match, which Brazil won 6-5 after extra time. The 2006 World Cup in Germany was the only edition where no player managed to score a hat-trick.
