World's only scent library becomes matchmaking space, invites 80 singles from Hsinchu to find destiny

Zhubei City in Taiwan is offering a novel approach to finding love this Valentine's Day with an event titled "Meet Through Books and Scents." The initiative, organized by the Zhubei City Office, aims to connect 80 single professionals from Hsinchu County and City in a unique matchmaking setting.

The event will take place at the Zhubei City Library's Fude Branch, which houses the "Scent Library." This unique facility, described as the world's only library dedicated to scents, will be specially opened on a Monday, its usual day off, for the occasion. Participants will explore a curated collection of scents, including those inspired by the city itself and famous visitors, alongside recommended books.

Zhubei Mayor Cheng Chao-fang, who will act as a "book-scent matchmaker," believes this approach offers a more organic way for singles to connect. "Instead of starting with awkward self-introductions, participants can find common topics through a book or a whiff of scent," he stated. The library features 29 distinct scent works, including "Richard's Garden," inspired by pianist Richard Clayderman's visit, and "Beautiful Bay," linked to singer Lisa Ono. The event also includes a book exchange and prizes, aiming to create a memorable experience for attendees.

This event targets professionals in fields such as healthcare, military, education, and law, who often have busy schedules limiting opportunities to expand their social circles. By combining the sensory experience of scents with the intellectual engagement of reading, the city hopes to foster genuine connections. The event is open to singles aged 18 and above who are registered residents of Hsinchu County or City, with registration closing on August 14th.
