Wrestling community rallies around Regina coach battling cancer

Regina's wrestling community is demonstrating its strong bonds as it rallies to support Hajar Quinn, a beloved coach and co-owner of Ascendant Martial Arts, who is currently facing a difficult battle with Stage four colon and liver cancer. Quinn, known for her dedication to teaching athletes, including a popular toddler wrestling program, received a Stage four diagnosis that came as a significant shock to her and her husband, Sean Quinn, who co-owns the gym.

Following Hajar's diagnosis, the couple temporarily stepped away from the gym to focus on hospital visits and treatment. However, the wider wrestling community quickly learned of her situation and stepped up without hesitation. "Everyone just stepped up, no questions asked. It’s pretty incredible, actually," Sean Quinn remarked about the outpouring of support.

In a remarkable display of solidarity, individuals involved with Saskatchewan Wrestling organized a special wrestling camp over the weekend. The event saw competitors from across the province gather at the gym, with all proceeds from the camp dedicated to supporting Hajar's medical treatments. This initiative highlights the deep respect and affection the community holds for Quinn.

Being side by side by her, it’s its own challenge."
