Wrexham signs goalkeeper Patterson from Sunderland for reported record fee

Wrexham AFC has secured the signing of goalkeeper Anthony Patterson from Premier League club Sunderland for a reported club-record fee. The move signals the Welsh club's ambition to reach the top flight under its Hollywood ownership.

Patterson, 26, has signed a four-year deal, committing him to Wrexham until the end of the 2029-30 season. He is the club's third summer signing and brings significant experience, having made 169 appearances for Sunderland and contributing to their promotions to the Championship and Premier League. He also had a loan spell at Millwall last season.

The reported initial fee for Patterson is 8 million pounds, which would make him Wrexham's most expensive signing, exceeding the previous record of 7.5 million pounds for striker Nathan Broadhead. Wrexham narrowly missed out on a playoff spot for Premier League promotion last season, finishing seventh in the Championship.

Co-owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, who purchased the team in 2021, are investing heavily to elevate Wrexham's status. Patterson expressed his desire to play in the Premier League with Wrexham, believing the club has the necessary infrastructure to achieve this goal.
