China's popular social media platform Xiaohongshu attempted to engage with Taiwanese users on Threads but faced immediate backlash, resulting in its official account being deleted within 24 hours. The platform, which is already restricted in Taiwan, launched its Threads account using simplified Chinese, inviting interaction from Taiwanese netizens.

Users flooded the comments section with banned terms in mainland China, including "8964" (referencing the Tiananmen Square Massacre), "Xi Winnie" (a derogatory nickname for President Xi Jinping), and other criticisms of the Chinese Communist Party. Memes and AI-generated images mocking Xi Jinping also appeared, overwhelming the platform's moderation efforts.

The Ministry of the Interior previously ordered a one-year ban on the platform, citing increased fraud cases and the parent company's non-compliance with cybersecurity requirements. The rapid deletion of the Threads account highlights the deep political sensitivities and the strong anti-authoritarian sentiment among many Taiwanese internet users.
