Ybycuí Roads Abandoned Despite G. 997 Million Investment, Officials Denounce Mismanagement

In Ybycuí, Paraguay, residents are raising alarms over the state of local roads, which remain in disrepair despite the municipal administration's reported spending of nearly G. 1 billion on improvements. The current mayor, María Cristina Servín Franco, who is seeking re-election, faces accusations of mismanagement of these funds.

Councilor Luis Andrés Rolón Samaniego expressed concern over the lack of transparency surrounding G. 997,578,269 allegedly spent on road repairs between 2025 and 2026. He stated that the Municipal Board lacks adequate information about these significant disbursements. Rolón also pointed to questionable practices, such as paying for machinery rentals from external companies when the municipality reportedly owns its own equipment.

The situation has prompted councilors to formally request detailed reports from the mayor to clarify the use of these funds. The complaint has been lodged with the Public Ministry, though progress on the investigation is reportedly slow.
