Yogyakarta Forms Psychological Support Team for Daycare Abuse Victims

The city of Yogyakarta is taking swift and compassionate action to address the horrific abuse discovered at the Little Aresha daycare. Our priority is the well-being of these children who have suffered unimaginable trauma. We are immediately forming a specialized team of experts to provide the necessary psychological support, not only for the young victims but also for their understandably distressed parents.

Because the children now are felt to have several children with signs that are not psychologically healthy, so we have discussed with KPAI (Indonesian Child Protection Commission), with the department to immediately hold a meeting after this to form a support team.

This situation is deeply saddening for any parent to comprehend. Hearing the accounts from the parents, we can only imagine the fear and helplessness these children must have experienced. It is our duty as a city government to ensure they receive the care and healing they deserve. We are mobilizing our existing resources, including 18 clinical psychologists at local health centers, to provide immediate assistance.

We have noted the treatments that are indicated to have been done to their children. They are sad, we are also very sad, because what they tell makes us as parents can imagine what a child who cannot protest is like, and a child who does not yet have a bargaining position is like, but there is that treatment.

We commend the swift and decisive action taken by the police in raiding the daycare and apprehending the alleged perpetrators. Justice must be served, and we trust the legal process will continue to unfold thoroughly. We are committed to supporting the victims and their families throughout this ordeal and ensuring such a tragedy never happens again in our city.
