Yogyakarta Students Protest Lecturer's Alleged Sexual Harassment

Hundreds of students at Universitas Pembangunan Nasional "Veteran" Yogyakarta protested on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, following allegations of sexual harassment involving a lecturer from the Agroteknology Department. The students gathered at the Rectorate Building, demanding the university take firm action against the alleged perpetrator. Many students carried posters and banners criticizing the campus's handling of sexual harassment cases, which they described as non-transparent. Anton Wijoyo, the protest coordinator, told reporters that this is not the first instance of sexual harassment at UPN Veteran Yogyakarta. He claimed that such cases have happened for a long time, but the administration allegedly concealed them to protect the university's image. Wijoyo added that similar incidents have been reported in other faculties, including Engineering and Social and Political Sciences, and are still under investigation. He explained that perpetrators often start with sexist jokes and then invite students for informal gatherings. The alleged perpetrators are all lecturers and educational staff.

This sexual harassment or molestation case is not the first time it has happened at UPN Veteran Yogyakarta. This is a case that has been going on for a long time, but the bureaucracy has continued to cover it up under the guise of UPN's image or that this institution will worsen in the media or in public.
