Young Dubrovnik sailor dies in Spanish port accident

A tragic accident in the port of Valencia, Spain, has claimed the life of Dominik Vidoš, a 27-year-old sailor from Dubrovnik. The incident occurred on the evening of August 24, during ongoing expansion work at the port.

Vidoš, who served as the second officer for the Jan De Nul Group, was reportedly performing maintenance on a vessel when he fell into the sea and became entangled in ropes. Emergency services, including port police, the Civil Guard, and medical personnel, were dispatched to the scene immediately.

The Civil Guard has taken charge of the investigation to determine the exact circumstances and cause of the fatal accident. The news has sent waves of grief through Vidoš's hometown of Dubrovnik.

Members of Porporela, a local community group Vidoš was actively involved in, shared a heartfelt farewell on Facebook. They described him as a "Porporelaš at heart" and a cherished friend, expressing the immense pain of his premature departure. They organized a gathering at Porporela for prayers and to light candles in his memory.

Another close friend, Denis Pavela, also posted a moving tribute, calling Vidoš a "wonderful young man, loved and special." He expressed hope that the sea Vidoš loved would carry him gently into eternity. The outpouring of condolences highlights the significant impact Vidoš had on his community.
