Young Man Killed on Sidewalk in Brasov, Days Before 26th Birthday

Alexandru, a young man from Piatra Neamț, died tragically in Brasov, Romania, just ten days before his 26th birthday. He was among several pedestrians struck by a car that veered onto the sidewalk on Mureșenilor street.

The devastating incident occurred when a 50-year-old driver lost control of his vehicle. Surveillance footage shows the car crossing a roundabout at speed before continuing approximately 100 meters on Mureșenilor street. It then mounted the sidewalk near a pedestrian crossing, hitting multiple people and pushing them towards a building facade.

Alexandru's girlfriend and his girlfriend's mother expressed their grief on Facebook. "My love, may your journey to heaven be smooth. May the angels protect you," wrote his girlfriend. His girlfriend's mother lamented, "Child, what a path you had and what a curse followed you that you left so young? You had plans, dreams, and a long road ahead, and a girl who loves you to the sky and back."

In addition to Alexandru, a 34-year-old German tourist also lost his life in the crash. Another person was seriously injured and transported to the hospital. A witness described how the car that caused the accident was rear-ended by another speeding vehicle, causing the driver to lose control. The driver, who had 33 years of driving experience and only one prior traffic violation, tested negative for alcohol and drugs. Investigators are examining all possibilities, including the driver suffering a medical episode.
