Former Ovidius University Rector Suspected in Pimping Case

Tiberius Dănuț Epure, the former rector of Ovidius University in Constanța, is reportedly among the individuals detained in connection with a pimping investigation. Local media, citing sources, identified Epure, who led the university until 2013, as one of three people held by authorities.

Law enforcement officers from the Constanța Municipal Criminal Investigation Service carried out searches at residences in Constanța and Călărași counties. The operation, supported by special forces and police from Călărași, targeted individuals suspected of involvement in criminal activities. During the raids, investigators seized items deemed relevant to the case. Three individuals were detained for 24 hours and taken to a detention center.

According to investigators, one of the detained individuals, a 55-year-old man identified by sources as Epure, is accused of facilitating prostitution for three victims between March and June 2026. He allegedly provided them with rented apartments operating under a hotel regime for the provision of sexual services. The suspects are believed to have gained financial benefits from this activity by collecting payments from clients.

The other two individuals detained are a 38-year-old man and a 48-year-old woman. Epure previously served as rector of Ovidius University until 2013 and was later convicted in a separate bribery case. All individuals involved are presumed innocent until a final court decision is made.
