Young man shot dead near Culiacán university as attackers escape despite security operation

A young person presumed to be waiting for a city bus was shot dead outside Ciudad Universitaria in Culiacán, while the attackers fled on a motorcycle despite continuing federal security operations in the area.

The shooting occurred at a bus stop beside a cemetery in the La Lima neighborhood, on Avenida Universitarios near one of the main entrances to the university campus. Authorities have not said whether the victim was a student.

The victim wore blue jeans, a black shirt and black shoes. State prosecutors’ forensic investigators collected evidence and spent shell casings at the scene.

The gunshots frightened dozens of students from different faculties, who sought shelter inside classrooms. Army personnel carrying out patrols in the Botanical Garden, opposite the Autonomous University of Sinaloa, also launched an operation.
