Youth Employment, Mental Health Top Global Challenges, Says Indonesian Minister at UN

Indonesian Minister of Youth and Sports, Erick Thohir, met with United Nations officials at their New York headquarters to discuss pressing issues facing global youth. Thohir identified job creation and mental health as the two most significant challenges confronting young people worldwide amid rapid global changes.

During his meeting with Felipe Paullier, Assistant Secretary-General for Youth Affairs, Thohir shared insights into the common struggles of young people across many nations. He stressed that the fast-paced evolution of the world impacts future employment, social lives, and increases the pressure on youth. Therefore, youth programs must effectively address these realities.

"Job creation and mental health are the two biggest issues felt by young men and women in the world today," Thohir stated. "Therefore, the youth programs we implement must be targeted, relevant to the challenges they face, and truly provide an impact."

Thohir affirmed that the Ministry of Youth and Sports is committed to developing policies that go beyond mere event organization. Programs should focus on building character and enhancing the capacity of Indonesian youth to prepare them for future challenges. This aligns with President Prabowo Subianto's directive to foster a generation of Indonesians with strong character, resilience, empathy, and patriotism.
