Zagreb kindergarten accountant suspected of embezzling 138,550 euros

Authorities are investigating a 35-year-old woman, the head of accounting at a Zagreb kindergarten, for allegedly embezzling 138,550 euros. She is suspected of transferring funds from the kindergarten's bank account to companies belonging to a 36-year-old man, who is described as a close associate and responsible person for two companies.

The alleged scheme took place between December 16, 2024, and January 17, 2025. Prosecutors suspect the woman abused her position, while the man is accused of inciting her to do so. The kindergarten was reportedly not doing business with the man's companies, yet funds were transferred, causing the significant financial damage.

Both individuals have been questioned by the ŽDO Zagreb (County State Attorney's Office in Zagreb), and an investigation has been launched. The woman faces charges of abuse of position, and the man faces charges of incitement to abuse of position. The investigation aims to determine the full extent of the alleged fraud and recover the misappropriated funds.
