Zelenskyy after meeting Kushner and Witkoff: “Very significant negotiations”

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy described his talks with U.S. special envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner as “very significant” after the two Americans arrived in Kyiv by train on Sunday.

Reuters reported that the discussions included possible deliveries of air-defense missiles and a support package for the coming winter. Zelenskyy said the meeting also addressed security and economic support for Ukraine. He said he planned to travel to Norway and Canada to discuss anti-ballistic missiles.

Witkoff said the U.S. team had been “very encouraged” by what he called a substantive and important discussion. “The talks will continue as long as they need to,” he told journalists. Kushner, President Donald Trump’s son-in-law, said the United States was working on a “peace package.”

The visit marked the envoys’ first trip to Kyiv, although they had previously traveled to Moscow. On Saturday, they met Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow for more than three hours. No statement after that meeting indicated a breakthrough.

Before the Americans arrived, Zelenskyy said Ukraine wanted peace but needed security guarantees. He also said he was ready for constructive talks with Kushner and Witkoff. The envoys came to Ukraine to present a new peace proposal, as the United States renewed efforts to offer concrete ways to end the war. Kushner and Zelenskyy have both said that further negotiations over a possible settlement should involve Ukraine, the United States and Russia.
