Zelenskyy on EU: I understand Vučić's skepticism, but Ukraine is at war

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy acknowledged Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić's skepticism regarding the European Union accession process, stating he understood his counterpart's perspective. However, Zelenskyy stressed that Ukraine, currently engaged in a full-scale war, cannot afford such skepticism and is focused on its future as a nation.

Zelenskyy expressed confidence in overcoming challenges to achieve Ukraine's EU aspirations.

Zelenskyy also conveyed gratitude to Serbia for its recent humanitarian aid package, particularly in the healthcare and energy sectors. He highlighted the positive progress in negotiations for a free trade agreement between Ukraine and Serbia, expressing a desire to finalize it by the end of the year. The leaders also discussed strengthening bilateral cooperation through concrete infrastructure development projects, such as reconstruction efforts, which could create jobs in both countries.

We should work hard to reach a free trade agreement. The negotiations are progressing, and that is positive. It would be good to prepare everything by the end of this year so that we can conclude a free trade agreement between Ukraine and Serbia.

Addressing the ongoing conflict, Zelenskyy mentioned the difficult situation in Ukraine, including recent attacks involving ballistic missiles and drones. He thanked the Serbian people for their welcoming attitude towards Ukrainians, emphasizing that their kindness will not be forgotten. The discussion also touched upon the challenges Ukraine faces, including attacks on its thermal power plants.
