Zelenskyy reiterates Ukraine's non-involvement in Nord Stream pipeline attack

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has once again denied his country's involvement in the 2022 sabotage of the Nord Stream pipelines. The denial comes after German prosecutors last month alleged that Ukrainian authorities had ordered the attack, a claim that could strain relations between Kyiv and its key military allies.

Speaking to reporters, Zelenskyy stated, "Ukraine has never officially participated in any operation related to the Nord Stream explosion." He added that Germany is "fully aware that Ukraine was not behind either the execution or the conception of this operation."

The Ukrainian leader emphasized that Kyiv is cooperating with the ongoing investigation in Germany. He expressed concern that the accusations could damage Ukraine's crucial alliances, stating, "For us, it is very important not to lose our alliance, not to lose the trust of the European countries that have been helping Ukraine since the beginning of this war."

The Nord Stream 1 and 2 pipelines, which transported Russian gas to Europe, suffered four major gas leaks following underwater explosions on September 26, 2022, seven months after Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine. A Ukrainian national was recently arrested in Croatia on suspicion of involvement in the sabotage, with German prosecutors alleging he collaborated with another Ukrainian citizen previously detained in Italy.
