Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has sharply criticized the United States' decision to extend a waiver on Russian oil sanctions, labeling it a direct financial contribution to Russia's war effort. The move, aimed at stabilizing global energy prices exacerbated by the conflict in the Middle East, effectively permits the continued sale of Russian oil and petroleum products currently in transit.

In a strong statement on X, Zelenskyy asserted that "every dollar paid for Russian oil is money for the war," emphasizing that the substantial revenue generated is being used to finance devastating strikes against Ukraine. He pointed to the presence of over 110 tankers carrying Russian oil in breach of international sanctions, representing approximately US$10 billion that can now be sold "without consequences." This funding, he argued, directly translates into new attacks on Ukrainian cities and communities, citing a recent surge in drone, aerial bomb, and missile assaults.
