Zelenskyy: Ukraine ready to halt strikes on Moscow through Monday

Ukraine is ready to stop striking Moscow through Monday, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said, while calling on Russia to show the same restraint toward Kyiv.

Zelenskyy said on Telegram that he had spoken with envoys of the US president, who had begun talks with the Russian side. Ukraine, he said, was prepared to observe a ceasefire and avoid airstrikes against cities involved in the negotiations from the start of the talks through the end of Saturday, as well as on Sunday and Monday.

He also reported receiving briefings from Defense Minister Yevhen Khmara and Ukrainian Armed Forces commander Mykhailo Drapat about the front line, changing threats to Ukrainian airspace, and Ukraine’s active defensive operations. He thanked Ukrainian soldiers for effectively defending the country’s positions.

Zelenskyy said Ukraine would remain equally active on the diplomatic front. Kyiv has confirmed a plan for diplomatic meetings involving a US delegation, and he said it was expecting Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner for substantive talks. The US envoys were sent to Moscow and Kyiv with a proposal aimed at ending Russia’s war against Ukraine, according to the report.
