Zemst partners with Animal Disaster Team for emergency preparedness

The municipality of Zemst has formalized its commitment to animal welfare during emergencies by signing a cooperation agreement with the Animal Disaster Team (ADT).

This specialized organization focuses on the rescue and care of animals affected by disasters, including floods and severe accidents. The agreement ensures that Zemst will have access to the ADT's expertise and resources when such events occur.

She explained that the ADT can be called upon if, for instance, an accident involving animal transport happens on the E19 highway, which runs through Zemst's territory.

While the Animal Rescue Team also assists animals in distress, the ADT is equipped with larger materials specifically for evacuating animals and ensuring their safe accommodation during large-scale emergencies. This collaboration underscores Zemst's proactive approach to disaster preparedness, extending its safety net to include its animal population.

Should a disaster occur where animals are also victims, a municipality, police, or fire department can call upon the Animal Disaster Team.
