Živa Remic shines again

Slovenian track and field prodigy Živa Remic has captured the gold medal in the 800-meter race at the European U18 Athletics Championships held in Rieti, Italy. The 16-year-old phenom not only won the event but also shattered the championship record, clocking in at an impressive 2:03.77. This victory marks a significant milestone, securing Slovenia's first-ever gold medal at these championships, which have been held since 2016.

Remic demonstrated exceptional dominance, leading the race from start to finish. She passed the 400-meter mark in 58.6 seconds and maintained her lead to secure a decisive win. Austria's Magda Karall finished second with a time of 2:05.88.

This performance caps a stellar season for Remic, a member of Ljubljana's Olimpija club. On June 13, she achieved a personal best of 1:59.64 in Germany, becoming only the fourth Slovenian woman to run the 800 meters under two minutes outdoors. This time also ranks as the second-best European U18 performance this season. Her coach, Gregor Grad, highlighted the U18 European Championships and the upcoming U20 World Championships in Eugene, USA, as her primary goals for the year.

Last year, Remic earned the silver medal in the 800m at the European U20 Championships and a gold medal in the 400m at the European Youth Olympic Festival. She also met the qualifying standard of 1:59.80 for the upcoming European Athletics Championships in Birmingham.
