Zverev Advances at Halle Open, Defeats Hanfmann in German Duel

French Open champion Alexander Zverev has advanced to the quarterfinals of the Halle Open. Zverev secured his spot by winning a German duel against Yannick Hanfmann in the round of 16, with a score of 6:3, 7:6 (7:4). The 29-year-old converted his first match point after 1 hour and 21 minutes of play. "The level was high today from both of us, we both served very well," Zverev commented after the match on Centre Court. Playing under the Westphalian sun, Zverev, with his girlfriend Sophia Thomalla watching, needed a break in the first set and a tiebreak in the second to move forward. Following a tough three-set victory in the first round against Czech player Vit Kopriva, Zverev delivered a focused performance in Halle, characterized by a strong serve. He recorded nine aces and did not face a single break point. For Hanfmann, this marked his final appearance at the ATP 500 tournament in Halle this year. He and his doubles partner Jan-Lennard Struff were also eliminated in the quarterfinals of the doubles competition. Zverev and his Brazilian partner Marcelo Melo had previously exited the doubles tournament.
