Zverev Returns to German Davis Cup Squad for Croatia Tie

World number three and French Open champion Alexander Zverev is set to rejoin the German Davis Cup team for their qualifying match against Croatia. The crucial tie is scheduled to take place on September 19-20 in Halle, Germany, on a hard court surface.

Zverev's return is a significant boost for Germany as they aim to qualify for the Davis Cup finals. He was part of the team for last year's finals tournament but did not play in the first-round qualifier where Germany convincingly defeated Peru 4-0. At that time, he had just lost a grueling five-set Australian Open semifinal to Carlos Alcaraz.

Since that disappointment, Zverev has enjoyed a stellar run of form. His career highlight came in June and July when he captured his first Grand Slam title at Roland Garros. He followed this with a strong performance in the Wimbledon final, where he was ultimately defeated by world number one Jannik Sinner.

German captain Michael Kohlmann expressed his delight at Zverev's availability. The winner of the Germany-Croatia tie will secure a spot among the eight nations competing in the Davis Cup finals in Bologna from November 24-29. Kohlmann will announce the fifth player for the German squad at a later date, while Croatian captain Ivan Dodig has yet to reveal his team.
