10 climbers missing after Broad Peak avalanche

A 10-member international climbing team has gone missing on Broad Peak following a significant avalanche, raising serious concerns among mountaineering officials. The Alpine Club of Pakistan (ACP) confirmed it lost contact with the group after the incident occurred midday Thursday on the 8,047-meter peak.

The Alpine Club of Pakistan (ACP) said it was deeply concerned after it lost contact with a 10-member international climbing team on Broad Peak, after an avalanche struck around midday on Thursday.

Initial reports indicate the expedition was led by renowned mountaineer Nirmal 'Nims' Purja. The team comprised climbers from various nations, including Pakistani mountaineer Sohail Sakhi, five climbers from Nepal, one each from the United States, Oman, and China, along with one other foreign national.

According to ACP’s Karrar Haidri, the club was closely monitoring the situation.

The ACP is actively monitoring the situation and is in communication with government authorities and rescue agencies. Efforts are underway to mobilize helicopter support and ground rescue teams. However, the deployment of these resources is contingent upon favorable weather and operational conditions, highlighting the challenging environment faced by rescuers.
