Rescue efforts in full swing as dozens of villages in Punjab still under water

Rescue efforts are in full swing across Punjab, Pakistan, as recent floods have submerged vast tracts of land and displaced thousands. The deluge has affected more than 94 villages, inundating over 43,000 acres and impacting at least 1,215 houses, particularly along the Lahore-Gujranwala stretch of the GT Road. The Punjab Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) reported that 738 people and 46 livestock were evacuated. In response, 13 relief camps have been established, providing essential supplies and medical care to affected families. Over 4,000 ration bags have been distributed, and medical camps have treated more than 1,600 patients. Despite receding waters in some of the worst-hit areas like Ferozewala and Muridke, officials caution that continued rainfall could trigger renewed flooding. The Flood Forecasting Division (FFD) noted that the Indus River is flowing at a medium flood level and predicts similar or higher flows in eastern rivers' tributaries, adding to the ongoing concern for affected communities.
