12 Police Housing Units Burn Down in Surakarta, Indonesia

A fire ravaged 12 official housing units at the Panularan Police Dormitory in Surakarta, Indonesia, on Friday afternoon. The blaze, which began around 4:00 PM local time, impacted 10 families, though fortunately, no lives were lost. Two of the affected units were unoccupied.

"A total of 12 units were burned. Ten families were affected, while two houses were empty. Alhamdulillah, there were no casualties. The losses were material, and the exact cause of the fire is still under investigation," stated Surakarta Police Chief Kombes Pol Catur Cahyono.

The fire spread rapidly due to the close proximity of the houses, sending thick black smoke billowing into the sky, visible across much of Surakarta. Firefighters, along with personnel from the Indonesian Red Cross, Regional Disaster Management Agency, volunteers, and residents, worked to extinguish the flames and evacuate residents. Six fire engines were deployed, and the fire was brought under control around 6:20 PM.

Police Chief Kombes Pol Catur Cahyono, accompanied by the Mayor of Surakarta, Respati Ardi, and other officials, visited the scene to monitor the handling of the situation and ensure all residents were safely evacuated. The priority during the incident was the safety of the occupants and preventing the fire from spreading. Police also assisted residents in salvaging belongings and secured the area after the fire was extinguished.
