15,000 personnel to be deployed for Osun poll -CP election

The Nigeria Police Force is set to deploy around 15,000 personnel to ensure security during the upcoming Osun governorship election scheduled for August 15. Commissioner of Police Samuel Etaifo, who is in charge of the election security, announced this measure in Osogbo, the state capital.

The extensive deployment will comprise a wide range of units, including conventional police officers, specialists, the dog section, medical personnel, and the Police Mobile Force. To further bolster the operation, a Deputy Inspector General of Police and an Assistant Inspector General of Police will also be present in the state to oversee the electoral exercise.

As I speak with you the total number of officers that will come for this election we should be expecting nothing less than 15,000. This includes conventional policemen, specialists, dog section, medical, PMF. The DIG and AIG in charge of this operations are coming.

Etaifo stated that he was specifically deployed by the Inspector General of Police due to heightened tensions in the state. He emphasized that all deployed personnel must uphold high ethical standards and operate strictly within the bounds of the law. The CP warned that any officer found acting in a manner that compromises the conduct of a free and fair election would face severe consequences, regardless of their position.

In a bid to ensure accountability, Etaifo declared that any individual arrested for violating electoral laws during the poll will be transferred to Abuja. He stressed that the election is a federal government event, and all arrests will be processed at the federal level, reinforcing the national significance of the Osun governorship election.

Arrested violators of electoral laws will be moved straight to Abuja. No one arrested here in Osun during the course or after the election will be taken to Abuja. This election is a federal government election. Anybody arrested will be taken to Abuja. That’s the order.
