15-Year-Old Detained in France on Suspicion of Starting Forest Fire

A 15-year-old boy is facing an official investigation in France in connection with a forest fire that tragically claimed the lives of two firefighters near Bordeaux Airport on July 21. The firefighters were reportedly inside a truck when it became engulfed in flames.

The deaths, along with that of a volunteer firefighter in another blaze in southeastern France, have sparked outrage among French firefighter unions. These organizations argue that the fire service lacks adequate resources to manage the high volume of wildfires experienced this year.

Representatives from nine unions met with Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin on Thursday. They expressed dissatisfaction with the minister's promises, deeming them insufficient, and have threatened to strike in September if their concerns are not addressed.

France is currently experiencing another heatwave, with firefighters battling wildfires in multiple locations. The ongoing situation highlights the strain on emergency services and the critical need for better resource allocation and support.
