17-Year-Old Mother and Four Relatives Indicted in Austria Over Newborn's Death

In a case involving a newborn found dead at the Nickelsdorf border crossing in January, the Eisenstadt public prosecutor's office in Austria has indicted five individuals who are currently in custody. The infant's mother, who was only 17 at the time of the incident, faces charges of killing a child during birth. Four other family members have been charged with complicity in a murder, as confirmed by a spokesperson for the prosecutor's office on Monday.

According to the indictment, the family members allegedly served as lookouts and assisted in the removal of evidence from the crime scene. They are being prosecuted for complicity in murder under Section 79 of the Criminal Code, which pertains to the killing of a child during birth. This specific charge can only be applied to the mother, while the relatives face a different charge due to their alleged involvement.

A report by "Kurier" identified the family members involved as the 17-year-old's mother, sister, brother, and brother-in-law. The investigation and subsequent indictments highlight the serious nature of the charges and the alleged involvement of multiple individuals in the circumstances surrounding the infant's death.
