2,300 students compete in Malaysia Techlympics 2026 Southern Zone

A total of 2,300 students from 135 schools and higher education institutions in Johor and Melaka competed in the Southern Zone Malaysia Techlympics 2026. The event, held over two days at Tunku Abdul Rahman University of Management and Technology (TAR UMT) in Segamat, focused on artificial intelligence (AI), robotics, drones, engineering, and innovation. Organized by the Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation (MOSTI), the competition serves as a platform to nurture the younger generation's interest in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) through interactive and engaging challenges. Participants who qualify from this zone will compete in the National Finals scheduled for November at MAEPS Serdang. Datuk Dr. Nagulendran Kangayatkarasu, the Secretary-General of MOSTI, highlighted that Malaysia Techlympics aims to cultivate a culture of science, technology, and innovation through practical, experience-based learning. He noted the introduction of new AI-based competitions, AI Vibe Coding Drone and the FC-1 Vibe AI Challenge, reflecting current global technological advancements. "Besides AI, participants' abilities in various other disciplines, including robotics, coding, computing, drones, and engineering, were tested through competitions based on real-world problem-solving," he stated. MOSTI is committed to developing a high-skilled talent pool by providing more platforms to discover new talents in technology and innovation, with the hope that this year's participation will foster young Malaysians ready to drive the digital transformation agenda and the high-tech economy.
