2 Times Postponed, Taliabu Island Hajj Pilgrims Finally Depart

After two years of unexpected delays, Iswanti Jahidin Hane, a devoted pilgrim from Pulau Taliabu in North Maluku, has finally embarked on her Hajj journey in 2026. Her path to the holy land was fraught with challenges, first in 2024 when she was unable to travel, stepping in to replace her mother using family savings accumulated since 2015.

I am a pilgrim who was postponed twice. The first time in 2024 I couldn't go, only my father could. I was just replacing my mother. This is from my parents' savings since 2015. I replaced my parents to go.

The following year, 2025, brought another setback. As a civil servant (ASN), Iswanti's Hajj plans were thwarted by an unavoidable work assignment that conflicted with the pilgrimage dates. This second cancellation was particularly difficult, highlighting the complexities faced by public servants balancing religious obligations with professional duties.

In 2025 I canceled because I am a civil servant and I had a task that I had to complete. Alhamdulillah, I can join this year with the new regulations. But originally we were departing as 55 people, now it's just me alone.

Despite these hurdles, Iswanti's unwavering faith and determination saw her through. She eventually joined the 13th flight group (kloter 13) with 393 other pilgrims in Makassar. Her journey from Pulau Taliabu to Ternate alone, spanning two days and one night with basic facilities, underscores her commitment. Although she was the sole pilgrim from her district and missed the communal farewells, Iswanti remains focused on the spiritual purpose of her pilgrimage, finding gratitude in the opportunity to fulfill this sacred duty.
