2026 O’jez Ladder table tennis tournament serves off at Ikeja Country Club

The 2026 O’jez Ladder table tennis tournament is off to a vibrant start at the Ikeja Country Club, demonstrating the passion and skill within the club's table tennis section. With over 300 participants, this event highlights the growing interest in the sport and the dedication of its members.

The tournament serves as a crucial platform for players to not only display their prowess but also to vie for a coveted spot in the top 20 rankings. The secretary of the table tennis section, Akeem Lekan Alli-Balogun, noted the record number of entries, necessitating an extension of the competition by two weeks, underscoring the high level of enthusiasm.

We began the competition on Wednesday. Members have been here playing. It is a tournament we all eagerly look forward to participating in. The prestige to be in the top 20 ranking and have your name on the board is a prime motivation for players.

Joseph Odobeatu, chairman and managing director of the O’jez entertainment group, expressed his continued honor in sponsoring the tournament, viewing it as a significant contribution to sports development in Nigeria. As a former table tennis player himself, Odobeatu finds joy in witnessing the competitive spirit and the testing of limits among the members.

The event's structure, with categories catering to different skill levels and age groups—including League one, League two, veterans, and super veterans—ensures inclusivity and broad participation. The grand finale on April 30 will crown the champions and solidify the club's rankings for the year.

As a table tennis player myself I have represented and won trophies for the Ikeja Country club in many tournaments, so it is exciting seeing people compete and testing their skills and limits.
