2027: ADC Chieftain Picks Benue Governorship Forms, Vows to Unseat Alia

In Benue State, Nigeria, the political landscape is already buzzing with activity ahead of the 2027 governorship elections, as Peter Adejoh, a prominent figure within the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has officially declared his intention to vie for the top seat. Adejoh's purchase of Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms marks a significant step in his campaign to challenge the incumbent Governor Hyacinth Alia of the All Progressives Congress.

Benue is over 50 years old, and looking at the economic indices, the state is not doing fantastically well.

Adejoh's candidacy is fueled by a strong critique of the current administration's performance, arguing that Benue State, despite being over 50 years old, has not achieved its potential for economic self-reliance. He contends that the governor's promises of positive change have not materialized, and he positions himself as the candidate who will bring about the necessary transformation.

The governor promised to change so many things and bring a positive impact, but he has not. That is what I am coming to change.

His platform emphasizes a commitment to inclusive governance, promising to be a governor for all ethnic groups in Benue State, rather than favoring specific tribes. Adejoh also outlines key policy priorities including strengthening local government autonomy, enhancing security, ensuring prompt payment of workers' salaries, and boosting internally generated revenue through strategic investments in agriculture and mineral resources. He has also urged the Independent National Electoral Commission to maintain its independence, cautioning against any moves that could lead to a one-party state.

I’m going to be a governor for Benue State. I’m not going to be an Idoma governor, Tiv governor, Igede governor or Etulo governor. There will be an even distribution of wealth across the three senatorial districts of Benue State.
