2027 Election: Tinubu, APC Bigwigs Secure Forms as Hamzat Gets GAC Backing in Lagos

The race for the 2027 general elections in Nigeria has officially begun within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), with President Bola Tinubu and other prominent party figures securing their nomination forms. This move signals the party's readiness to consolidate its power and prepare for the upcoming electoral cycle.

A significant development is the endorsement of Lagos State Deputy Governor, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, by the influential Governance Advisory Council (GAC) as the APC's consensus candidate for the state governorship. This backing from the GAC, a powerful bloc within Lagos politics, positions Hamzat strongly for the gubernatorial ticket, with Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu also endorsing his deputy.

The acquisition of forms by various aspirants, including Senator Solomon Adeola (Yayi) for the Ogun State governorship and Senators Shehu Buba and Isah Jibrin for Bauchi and Nasarawa governorship seats, respectively, indicates a dynamic political landscape. These actions are setting the stage for intense political realignments and succession battles across the country as the APC prepares to defend its mandate.
