25-year-old woman murdered in Istanbul street attack by ex-boyfriend

A 26-year-old woman, Nilda Müge Şahin, has died after being shot by her former partner in Istanbul's Şişli district. The incident occurred around 1 a.m. near a pharmacy in Mecidiyeköy. Şahin had stopped to buy medication for her sister when the assailant, identified as N.I., confronted her and opened fire before fleeing the scene.

Şahin was critically injured and later died at the hospital where she was taken for treatment. Police have launched an investigation into the shooting and are actively searching for N.I., who has reportedly been apprehended. The investigation revealed that the attacker had a history of violence.

In 2021, N.I. was convicted of stabbing a nurse, Ceylan G., in Beşiktaş and was sentenced to 14 years in prison. He had been released on parole. Nilda Müge Şahin's father, Turan Şahin, described the perpetrator as someone they had known for three years and shared meals with, who had developed a platonic obsession with his daughter. "He said he loved her. There were threats and blackmail. He had past offenses too. We always tried to guide him with kindness. We shared our bread with him kindly; but the result, unfortunately, has cost us this," the father stated, referring to the 35-year-old attacker who took his 25-year-old daughter's life.
