3,910 Central Sulawesi Madrasah Students Take Part in Indonesia Madrasah Olympiad

A total of 3,910 students from madrasah schools across Central Sulawesi are taking part in the 2026 Indonesia Madrasah Olympiad, with competitions spread across 88 locations in the province.

The Palu leg is centered at MAN 2 Palu, where 477 students from Madrasah Ibtidaiyah, Madrasah Tsanawiyah and Madrasah Aliyah are competing. Junaidin, head of the Central Sulawesi Regional Office of the Ministry of Religious Affairs, said the event is being directly monitored by the Student Affairs Subdirectorate of the ministry’s Directorate General of Islamic Education.

The oversight aims to ensure that the competition follows the applicable rules. Junaidin called the olympiad a strategic platform for strengthening the quality of madrasah education and public confidence in Islamic educational institutions. “OMI is a strategic stage to affirm the existence of madrasahs and show the public that madrasahs have the capacity, quality and competitiveness to produce an outstanding generation,” he said.

He also credited students’ achievements to a wider education system involving students, teachers, school principals and parents. In the coming years, he said, the competition should produce more than academic results. It should also help develop integrity, strong character, creativity, critical thinking and readiness for fair competition.

The district and municipal competition is scheduled for Sept. 7 to 9 under the theme “Islam, Science and Ecotheology.” Organizers say the event aims to nurture talent and encourage innovation in madrasahs as part of efforts to advance Indonesia.
